“I would recommend Plymouth because the staff are generous and supportive and the city itself is great.”Tell us about your career path since graduation.
I worked for my own business whilst I was completing my studies and I still do; though now I am mostly retired.
Has your career path changed since graduation?
I now have a high public profile. I have been quoted in the media numerous times, interviewed by the BBC, Radio New Zealand, and Russian TV. If you google my name it will give you some indication. I also give talks on cruise ships and to various bodies in Cornwall. I have also written books and various papers. I have also been involved in numerous Freedom of Information cases against the Cabinet Office with another coming up shortly.
What is the best, most exciting or fun thing that you have done in your career?
Since I graduated, I think that it would be receiving an invite to St James Palace and the Cabinet Office. Forcing the Cabinet Office to produce various documents which resulted in two House of Commons Select Committee Enquiries and a change in our constitution is also up there; as well as being called “some kind of nutter” by Prince Charles.
How did studying at Plymouth help you?
In terms of my thesis by agreeing to supervise, the University helped me hugely.
What lessons/skills did you gain from your course?
Research skills and academic writing skills.
Do you stay in touch with other University alumni or lecturers?
The University has made me a Visiting Research Fellow. I maintain contact with Professor Kim Stevenson, Ann Lyon, and Jason Lowther.
Would I recommend undertaking a course with the University?
Yes, I would recommend Plymouth because the staff are generous and supportive and the city itself is great.
