“I have already recommended to people that they should undertake a masters degree at the University of Plymouth. For me, it was a great combination between a very supportive university, motivating lecturers, a great variety of optional modules, as well as a beautiful landscape and very kind people.”Tell us about your career path since graduation.
After my graduation, I initially joined KPMG as an intern for three months and supported the strategy and operations department with a focus on change management. Afterward, I applied for a job as a consultant at Ernst & Young in the People & Advisory department.
Has your career path changed since graduation?
My career path changed after graduation because although I worked for one and a half years for an HR consulting firm focusing on the German Mittelstand between my bachelors and masters degree, it seems as if I was taken more seriously with my masters degree from the University of Plymouth.
What, if anything, would you do differently if you could?
Honestly, I would have liked to have completed my bachelors degree in the United Kingdom as well. The lecturers and professors in the UK are very motivating; they push you to achieve more, and the opportunities which come your way during your studies are broader and have a more international scope.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to get into the same line of work?
Try to get as much practical work experience besides your studies and in the form of an internship or student working placement. Always be nosy and eager to learn. Combine practical and theoretical knowledge from the very beginning of your studies.
How did studying at Plymouth help you?
Studying at Plymouth helped me in three ways. Firstly, my language skills improved rapidly. Secondly, my knowledge enhanced due to several case studies, essays, and group work. Thirdly, I had the chance to experience teamwork within a multi-cultural setup as I got to work alongside Chinese, French, English, as well as Indian, students
Would you recommend undertaking a course with the University of Plymouth, and why?
I would advise prospective students to consider studying at the University of Plymouth; indeed, I have already recommended to people that they should undertake a masters degree at the University of Plymouth. For me, it was a great combination of a very supportive university, motivating lecturers, a great variety of optional modules, as well as a beautiful landscape and very kind people.
