Ricky will explore how a radical reimagining of conventional approaches to materials can shape the way we design buildings in response to today’s climate challenges. He will share innovative projects from the Sustainable Technologies studio at the University of Plymouth's Architecture department. These projects rethink traditional ways of building and suggest fresh, exciting ways to use materials that address issues like resource shortages, decentralization, climate action, and new technologies in architecture.
Dr Ricky Burke is a registered architect and former BIM consultant. Based both in the United Kingdon and Hong Kong, Dr Ricky Burke is the programme leader for the BA (hons) Architecture at the University of Plymouth, teaching in Architecture, Built Environment, Engineering, and Design courses in both the undergraduate and taught post-graduate courses. Ricky specialises in socially and inhabitationally focused design, as well as information management and advancing media explorations to the construction and delivery of teaching at undergraduate and post-graduate level.
Ricky's primary research interests include investigation into the role of the built environment in personal and social fulfilment; inclusive design practice with vulnerable participants; and the use of advancing media in multi-modal architectural design.
