Welcome to Yeovil District Hospital
Yeovil Hospital District NHS Foundation Trust provides acute care for a population of about 180,000, people living in South Somerset, North and West Dorset, and parts of the Mendips.
Our Hospital is situated within walking distance from the town centre and has 345 beds. We provide a full-range of clinical services, including general medicine, cardiology, general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, a private wing, trauma and paediatrics, with an emphasis on enhanced recovery – this means we help people to recover as quickly as possible so they can return home.
As a pioneering Vanguard Trust we continually seek and seize new opportunities to improve the quality of services we provide.
Our iCARE philosophy of good communication, a positive attitude, respect for patients, relatives and each other and creating an environment conducive to care and recovery has been running for ten years and is embedded throughout the Trust.
What can we offer you as a student?
We provide placement experiences across a wide range of services. All of these areas are recognised learning environments with a strong ethos of ‘learning by doing’. Qualified mentors with a variety of experiences are ready to supervise and support you whilst you are in practice. You will experience working within the multidisciplinary team and in addition to this you will have opportunities to spend time with specialist teams and practitioners.
Our onsite Practice Development Teams are committed to making sure that you maximise your learning opportunities whilst with us. Our open door policy ensures we can provide you with clinical and pastoral support during your practice experience.
The Practice Development Teams have strong working relationships with the placement areas and we are a day to day visible presence to assist in facilitating the support you need.
Our Practice Development Teams also oversee your transition from Student to Qualified Healthcare Practitioner through our own YDH preceptorship programmes. These programmes have evolved over the past few years to meet the changing needs of the newly qualified practitioner and include a blend of clinical teaching, peer support and facilitated discussion and reflection to assist in your development.
Throughout your time you are with us you will have access to a 24-hour library service with free Wi-Fi, and onsite clinical training. We can also provide a variety of accommodation options which may assist with your time on placement with us.
