A warm welcome from Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust

We hope you enjoy your nurse training and look forward to welcoming you as qualified nurses in the future.
Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is an integrated organisation providing acute health care services from Torbay Hospital, community health services and adult social care. The Trust currently runs Torbay Hospital as well as nine community hospitals, stretching from Dawlish to Dartmouth. We also provide health and social care to the local population.
We have around 500,000 face-to-face contacts with patients in their homes and communities each year and see over 78,000 people in our A&E department annually. We serve a resident population of approximately 375,000 people, plus about 100,000 visitors at any one time during the summer holiday season.
We employ approximately 6,000 staff including frontline health and social care staff, such as nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, consultants, and physiotherapists who work in your home and from a range of different premises across Torbay and south Devon such as community hospitals and clinics.
We also have over 800 volunteers who make a difference each and every day to the people we care for.
Our purpose is to provide safe, high-quality care and social care at the right time and in the right place to support the people of Torbay and South Devon to live their lives to the full. This means that as an organisation we want people to:
  • be empowered to manage their own health and care needs
  • work in partnership with professionals
  • only tell us their story once
  • access seamless care easily
  • have care in or close to home, whenever appropriate
  • work together as a community to look after health and care needs.
We can offer exciting placements and all experiences required by your nursing programme. While undertaking your nursing degree we offer support and guidance to help you get the best during your time with us and during your training.
You will be supported not just by the University but also by a Placement Development Team. We are qualified nurses who will be available to support both you and your mentors while in practice should the need arise.
Torbay consists of three main towns – Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. It covers a 22 mile stretch of natural coastline, with over 20 safe beaches and secluded coves all of which combine to give the area the name the ‘English Riviera’. Torbay boasts a wide range of activities and amenities including cinemas showing the latest blockbusters, theatres providing a mix of shows from comedy to touring West End performances.
There are a great variety of sports and leisure facilities available throughout Torbay for public and club use, and proximity to the water gives the addition of a range of water sports. Across Torbay are numerous parks, gardens, open spaces and recreation grounds for our residents and visiting tourists to enjoy. We have a good transport system and can help you with accommodation if needed.
We look forward to working with you.
