If you are a student who is joining the second or final year of a degree having studied elsewhere, for example one of our progression students from a Partner College or other Direct Entrant to the second or final year, then this Head Start day may be for you.  While this may be your first time at the University of Plymouth, you are further on in your academic journey, so we have created a day that gives you the opportunity to familiarise yourself with your new surroundings while including information and advice about the issues that matter to more-established students.

What can I expect?

You can join us for as much of the day you as you like. Guided by talks from staff and small group discussion, you can expect to be:
  • discussing hopes, fears, expectations, and concerns with your fellow students and finding out how we can support you in all aspects of your life
  • finding your faculty offices, teaching spaces (availability and time permitting!) and working out where you need to be for your Induction Week
  • meeting the support staff in the Library, Student Hub, and Students' Union
  • getting hints and tips for planning and executing your final year research project from one of our Learning Development Advisers
  • gaining an insight into graduate careers, recruitment timelines and how we can support your career planning.

What Head Start is not

This is not a formal induction nor is it course-specific so you can expect to meet students from a range of subject areas. This will be an informal and relaxed get-together to meet others, get some of your questions answered, smoothing the way into your second or final year.
We look forward to meeting you!

Can’t make Head Start?

If you would like a short visit to take a look around, you may be interested in our hour-long 'Behind the Scenes' campus tours for new students taking place on 21 and 28 August and 4 September instead.
