In this session Dr Jasmine Kelland , Associate Professor of Human Resource Management, will share her research journey from her PhD thesis, Fathers at Work, to the publication in 2022 of her book, Caregiving Fathers in the Workplace, and now, her first major funding award from the British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust. She will cover:
  • My research topic and ‘fatherhood forfeits’
  • Failed applications and learnings
  • Go through what I needed to do to obtain the external grant
  • When I am at with my project and dealing with the many ethical issues
  • What next?
Before joining academia, Jasmine had a successful career in Human Resources, working with organisations such as the NHS, Boots and ITV. She will share how she developed her PhD thesis and her ‘fatherhood forfeit’ research, which attracted wide attention in the press and media; it was published by the House of Commons Women and Equalities Select Committee and referred to in a House of Commons debate exploring ‘Fathers in the Family’.
Jasmine’s 20-minute talk will be followed by a short presentation by Ewa Thompson, Research Funding Manager, Research and Innovation, to highlight external grants, such as that offered by the British Academy and Leverhulme Trust that are specifically targeted to early career researchers.
The Q+A discussion is chaired by Dr Kayla Parker, Co-ordinator, ECR Network for the faculty.
