We know that starting university can be a big change and there might be some unexpected challenges along the way. That’s why we have a range of support available to you during your time here.

Meet your academic faculty community

Faculty offices are where you go for questions about your course and your academic progress. Every student belongs to a school under one of three faculties
  • Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business
  • Faculty of Health
  • Faculty of Science and Engineering

In addition to direct support from your personal tutor, your faculty office can help you with different aspects of your student experience:
  • Coursework submission
  • Understanding how your modules are assessed
  • Exam arrangements
  • Changes to modules
  • Transferring course

Postgraduate research students(studying doctoral and research masters programmes) are supported by a dedicated team in the Doctoral College.

 
Adapting to your needs

If things aren’t quite working out how you expected, you can seek advice at all stages of your course. We’re there to assist your course progress and direct you to the most relevant form of student support should you need it.

 
Friendly support services and facilities

As well as receiving support from your academic faculty, you'll have access to a range of additional student services and facilities.
  • Student Hub
    Located at the centre of the Plymouth campus, the Student Hub will give you access to approachable advisers who can help you overcome a wide range of issues. Your experience will hopefully be smooth, but if not, we are here to support your wellbeing.
  • Careers Service
    This service will support you in your career thinking, enabling you to take the steps to succeed in the world of work. Benefit from workshops, events, work experience, mentoring, one-to-one appointments, job vacancies, online resources and support after you graduate.
  • Library
    You will find the Charles Seale-Hayne Library in the heart of the Plymouth campus. All our libraries offer the resources you need: books, e-books, online journals and a range of learning spaces as well as remote and face-to-face library and IT support and dedicated Information Specialists.
  • Writing support and academic skills
    To support you in reaching your full academic potential, you will have access to specialist staff and resources that will help you improve your academic skills that will enhance your study experience.
  • Supporting your life in student accommodation
    For those of you staying in one of our halls of residence, we have a team who will help you settle in and live within a caring, fun and vibrant community.
  • Supporting students with the cost of living
    Access the University of Plymouth's support for students experiencing rising costs, including financial support, employment, health care, food, bills, travel, equipment, accommodation and more.
  • Advice and support for international students
    Students who have arrived in the UK to study are supported by a team of friendly advisors who can provide immigration advice, support with Student visa applications, and help you settle into university life.
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
    We want you to be able to bring your whole self to university and not hide any aspect of who you are. Through events, groups, services and facilities (such as the multi-faith centre), we aim to create an inclusive and supportive community for all students.
  • Reporting abuse, harm or hate – SpeakUp
    The University of Plymouth is proud to be a safe, welcoming and diverse community and we believe that bullying, harassment and discrimination are never okay. Any allegations of this nature (which includes sexual violence, abuse or hate) are taken incredibly seriously.
