About Tim
Lecturer in Adult Nursing
Charge Nurse and Clinical School Fellow (Honorary Contract), University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust
Tim joined the School of Nursing and Midwifery as a Lecturer in Adult Nursing in April 2021 having previously worked in the NHS since he qualified in 2013. He has a clinical background in Cardiac Intensive Care, Respiratory and Cardiology Nursing and also in Clinical Nursing Management. Whilst being a Ward Manager in Cardiology, Tim also managed the Stroke and Neurology Ward and one of the inpatient COVID-19 Wards for a short term in response to the COVID pandemic. As part of his role as Ward Manager, Tim participated in the Senior Nurse rota where he was the Senior Nurse for the Hospital and would perform this role alongside his Clinical Nursing Management duties. Tim holds an Honorary Contract with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust to maintain his clinical and nursing management skills. He also continues to work in practice clinically in Cardiology and Respiratory and supporting the Senior Nurse Rota through his job with NHS Professionals.
He was successful in securing a grant from the National Institute of Health Research to undertake the Master of Clinical Research course in the School of Health Professions at the University of Plymouth. During this time he planned and carried out the POSETIV Study - the Perceptions Of healthcare Staff on Establishing a Trial of nurse-led non-Invasive Ventilation weaning on wards.
Throughout his clinical career, Tim has been a Clinical Skills Demonstrator and regularly facilitated Clinical Skills sessions with the School of Nursing and Midwifery and is happy to be able to continue this as part of the Year 2 and 3 nursing clinical skills module teams. Tim has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education to help him develop in his role as Lecturer in Adult Nursing and is an Associate Fellow of Advance Higher Education..

In addition to his teaching commitments, Tim is Academic Placement Development Team Lead for University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and is also Director of Nursing Masterclass, a series of extracurricular education sessions for Nursing and Nursing Associate Students.
