Next Steps South West - Student Recruitment and Creative Services (Marketing and Communications)

Sam Baldwin holds a dual role at the university, serving both as an Impact Evaluation Officer for the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Business, and as an Evaluation Officer for the UniConnect programme in the South-West. With over 14 years experience in higher education research and support, Sam is dedicated to providing data-driven insights and recommendations to enhance the effectiveness, influence, and efficiency of various projects and programmes.
The Bridge, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business Role
As Impact Evaluation Officer, Sam helps to direct, deliver, and support the Faculty's evaluation activities. Her responsibilities include developing tools and resources, sharing expertise, and collecting and analysing relevant data. She assists researchers and those involved in Knowledge Exchange (KE) and Public Engagement to understand and evidence the impact of their work and supports evidence-based decision-making in the ongoing development of SHAPE (Social Sciences, Humanities, and the Arts for People and the Economy) projects. Sam's role is crucial in ensuring that others can articulate and evaluate impact robustly, demonstrating the value of their work.
UniConnect Role
In her capacity with the UniConnect programme, part of the Next Steps South West Team, Sam's primary responsibilities include measuring project outcomes, providing evaluation support to all members of the partnership, and recording data on HEAT. She oversees the data analysis, monitoring, and evaluation of outreach activities. This includes designing and developing evaluation measures and deploying qualitative and quantitative evaluation techniques to demonstrate the impact of sustained, progressive, and targeted outreach on young people's progression to higher education within target wards.

Qualifications

Sam holds a bachelor's and master's degree in Archaeology, and a PhD in Physical Geography. Throughout her career, she has worked in various areas including field archaeology, research, and higher education support, where she honed her skills in project coordination, client relations, and data analysis and management. Her professional journey has equipped her with a robust set of skills that she leverages to contribute to her teams’ success.
