About Richard
I have worked at the University for over 17 years in various roles. Initially within ILS as a Support Desk Advisor and then moving into a 2nd line role as a Support Analyst/Assistant Computing Officer within TIS.
During this time, I have held secondment positions within Open Access IT where I was responsible for the management of the Student Fleet PC's and dealt with student personal devices e.g. if they were infected with viruses, malware etc.
I held a 2nd Line post for a number of years before moving over to the Institute of Education, a strand of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Here I was a Senior Technician (ICT), where I managed a fleet of iOS devices such as iPads and MacBook’s, which were used for enhancing the teaching experience both for lecturers and students enrolled on teacher training modules. The devices were used across a wide range of teaching disciplines and subjects.
After holding a role in the Institute of Education for 4 years, I moved faculties and became a Senior Technician in Computing. In this role I provide technical support for staff and students, primarily within the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics. The role involves managing computing labs by ensuring the labs and all PCs are configured accordingly to meet teaching and learning requirements for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, along with supporting needs for research.
Currently, I am also a Mobile Device Administrator in the Digital Education Team. This role requires the use of a dedicated mobile device management (MDM) solution to assist in overseeing and managing a large fleet of mobile devices, in particular Apple iPads, which are all utilised by staff and students within the Faculty of Health. An important part of the role is leading on the procurement, set-up, administration, user technical support, distribution and return of devices on a bi-annual cycle.
