My research focuses on how anthropogenic impacts (such as marine infrastructure or fishing) may alter the structure and function of marine biodiversity, frequently via their effects on habitat complexity. I have previously worked in terrestrial habitats and frequently used stable isotope techniques to elucidate food web structure. My work tends to lie at the intersection of pure and applied ecology, with the two informing one another. Presently, my work is heavily focused on how ecological engineering can enhance biodiversity in an increasingly urbanised seascape, notably in relation to coastal hardening and offshore energy deployments.
