About Jamie
I am Professor of Environmental Nanoscience within the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. I was Professor of Environmental Nanoscience and Risk at the University of South Carolina USA (2012-2024) and Professor of Environmental Nanoscience at the University of Birmingham, UK (2008-2012). At Birmingham, I founded the NERC funded facility FENAC.
My research covers two areas. First, fundamental studies of environmental fate and effects of nanoparticles, with a focus on their biophysicochemical transformations in complex media. Secondly, development of safe and sustainable nano-enabled platforms for the recovery and reuse of environmental pollutants such as oil, harmful algal blooms and metals. The latter area also involves (pre-)commercialization innovation.
I have published >> 200 papers in these and other areas, with a Web of Science h-index of 60, have edited 6 books and have 7 patents granted or pending.
I am Editor-in-Chief of the CSIRO Publishing journal Environmental Chemistry
