The Global Goals
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. Furkan's work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
About Furkan
Furkan Demir completed his BSc in Civil Engineering at Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, and his MSc in Coastal and Ocean Laboratory at the same university with the study titled "Effects of Antifer Placement Methods on Wave Loads Acting on Crown Walls in Shallow Water" .He has carried out many experiments on the stability of coastal structures, especially rubble mound breakwaters, and has conducted physical modelling experiments on the effect of different armour units on wave forces acting on the crown wall under various different wave conditions. He has also worked on numerical modelling of tsunamis, tropical cyclones and extreme marine hazards during his Master's degree and has a keen interest in coastal adaptation and resilience.
As part of the COAST Engineering Research Group, he is currently working on "Wave Interaction of Vertical Walls Fronted by Shingle Beaches" during his PhD. He is involved in both physical model experiments and numerical simulation studies.
