About Ben

I am currently a lecturer in auditing, financial reporting and general accountancy matters on the Accounting and Finance Degree, and also work on the general business degrees also.

I graduated from the University of Plymouth in 2007 before spending 14 years working for a large regional accounting practice, gaining experience auditing, and advising a large range of organisations. I had a particular specialism in working with not-for profit entities and the education sector. I was also responsible for a large volume of internal staff training, and my enjoyment of that aspect eventually led me to the University.

Governance is also a key for me towards good business management, be it in an auditing context, general business context of the charity and not-for-profit sector. I enjoy advising and looking for improvements to existing governance arrangements to promote the success of an organisation.

I take a personal approach to teaching, and want to get to know my students to be able to best help them achieve their goals.

Outside of teaching I enjoy talking to any local businesses and helping where I can.

Teaching

Audit and the impacts of regulation on the future of the profession.

Financial reporting and accounting, in particular future developments and making financial statements useful documents for the wider users. This includes environmental considerations such as ECR requirements.

Wider accounting and financial management, including investment appraisal and decision making.

Module lead for ACF6003 - Auditing and ACF5004 - Financial Accounting and Reporting

I also work on other modules such as ACF6005 - Corporate Financial Management, STO5003 - International and Digital Business and Accounting, HRL7007 - Managing People and Finance, HRL4004 - Business and Management Internal Setting.
