About Allan
I am a Registered Paramedic, joining the University of Plymouth Paramedic team in 2024 from another HEI. My HEI career started in 2018 after leaving the NHS where I had various educational roles ranging from the humble, yet essential Practice Educator to senior roles as an Education and Training Officer and lastly as a Training Centre and Quality Assurance Manager. After achieving my MA in Medical Education, I took the next step into higher education where I have undertaken various roles and projects to advance paramedic education.
My professional focus and diversification to clinical practice are within the Pillar of Education, where I seek to research and develop a professional and demographical understanding of how we learn, how we educate, and how we can combine the two to provide optimal learning environments that are a rich source of critical growth. Simulation is another keen interest, and I seek to explore the biopsychosocial influences of learners and systems so that we can break down assessment barriers and promote assessment for learning.
The current focus of my professional research is linked to Specific Learning Difficulties & Health (SpLD&H), exploring how, in the modern sociocultural and historical paradigm, we can break down barriers and increase both opportunity and inclusion.
Supervised Research Degrees
I currently supervise two researchers who are undertaking postgraduate studies in advanced practice.
