Award-winning contribution to dental training and community care

We recently received recognition at Times Higher Education Awards 2023 for our continued work to provide dental care and training.
The pioneering work of the Peninsula Dental School and the Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise won the Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community category at the awards ceremony. It is recognition of the efforts of more than 100 staff and 400 students working and studying with the University, and in communities across Devon and Cornwall.

Turning a dream into a reality

"Circumstances made me choose Plymouth, but in a way, I feel Plymouth actually chose me. The University saw something in me and I got a place on the BDS Dental Surgery programme – they believed in me from the start."
Spurred on by early setbacks, there’s plenty to smile about for future dentist James, who is determined to make his dentist dream a reality.

Peninsula Dental School Cultural and Diversity Evening

“James and I organised the first Cultural Evening on behalf of Peninsula Dental School because we felt that there are so many cultures and traditions among the school’s students and staff. We have been very fortunate to study with students of all ethnicities and backgrounds, and the event was a showcase of this, as it allowed students to convey their traditions and talents to their peers away from a formal setting. During the evening, foods, music and dance from students were enjoyed by faculty members and students across all years. Looking into the future, we hope to continue this as a tradition that is unique to the Peninsula Dental School at the University of Plymouth.”
