When working in Stonehouse in Plymouth we quickly realised that there are a wide range of community assets working in the area of health inequalities and working closely with local residents to do so. We heard a recurring question: how do we better use, value and share the stories we collect to create long term systemic change? To discuss this question and the issues around it we organised an event called Creating Change Together.
People working in Plymouth and beyond in health settings, communities and in local authorities came together to consider the following questions:
Sense making
- How are you currently using your stories, knowledge and data to demonstrate the value of your work?
- How the stories, knowledge and data you create influencing decision makers?
- Where and how is your learning influencing system change and reducing health inequalities?
Knowledge sharing
- How can we better share and curate stories, knowledge and data to support decision making that reduces health inequalities?
- What are the barriers to collaborating on sharing stories, knowledge and data to create change?
- What changes would make it easier to collaborate on sharing stories, knowledge and data?
We captured our conversations in a wonderful image. This visual reflects the feeling in the room that we do have informative and wonderful rich stories that can help effect change: and that we need to find ways to amplify them to ensure that decision makers listen.
