Research Festival 2021
Creating an impact from local to global

The annual Research Festival is a celebration of curiosity and collaboration, which invited you to understand more of our world and those living in it, from marine sciences to engineering to cybersecurity, global challenges to architecture to education.
We invited academics, businesses, partners, students and the public to sample a diverse programme that showcased the outstanding research carried out by staff at the University in collaboration with colleagues and partners locally, nationally and internationally.
Attendees heard about the latest research from leading academics and top keynote speakers, including COP26 High Level Climate Champion, Nigel Topping and presenter of BBC's Countryfile and Costing the Earth, Tom Heap, and found out how your research or business could achieve greater impact through collaboration.
We were delighted to welcome contributors and attendees from around the world to join us in the first virtual edition of the Research Festival.
Some of the questions our academics delved into include:
- How does University of Plymouth research respond to global environmental and marine challenges?
- What could a world powered by offshore wind, wave and tidal energy look like?
- Can cob building techniques be revitalised to meet modern needs?
- What knowledge will learners of the future need?

Public Research Programme
The year-long programme of public events showcases our research across a spectrum of topics. It presents the Inaugural Professorial Lecture series which celebrates the achievements of our academics who have been awarded their professorship; providing a platform for which they can share insights into their esteemed research.
