What is The Future is Green?

The Future is Green is a collaborative project that delivers skills development courses and programmes to individuals across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to support the development of skills needed for the future green economy. 
The project runs from January 2024 to March 2025, funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. 
The project is being delivered by the Net-Zero Exchange team, within the Sustainable Earth Institute at the University of Plymouth.

Short courses

3hr Net-Zero and Climate Change: Getting Started as Individuals and Enterprises

This three-hour online workshop is about sustainable practices, climate change mitigation and the global push towards achieving net-zero emissions.
Beginning with an overview of greenhouse gas emissions and their impact, we'll delve into strategies for achieving net-zero carbon emissions, considering sectors like energy, transport, buildings and agriculture, where most emissions come from.
Through case studies, interactive activities and quizzes, learners will gain insights into how to reduce their carbon footprint, introducing the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
The workshop also introduces the carbon handprint concept, a positive forward-looking action that can be taken. By the end of the workshop, you will understand the importance of transitioning to a net-zero economy and the role both individuals and organisations play in driving this transformation for a sustainable future.

12hr Net-Zero Action: Strategic Action Planning for Sustainable Change Workshop

An introduction to the steps required to reach net zero as enterprises and practical action workshops that work through a systematic approach to develop a practical action plan for enterprises to reach net zero.
This comprehensive 12-hour course is designed for organisational leaders, sustainability officers and change-makers aiming to steer their organisations towards a net-zero future.
Over two days of engaging sessions, participants will explore the concepts, strategies and practical steps necessary for implementing effective net-zero actions within their organisations. 
Through theoretical approaches integrated with case studies and interactive workshops, attendees will gain the knowledge and tools to develop and execute a tailored net-zero strategy that aligns with their organisational goals and values.

12hr Carbon Footprinting: Measuring your Organisation's Impact and Planning for Positive Change

This course consists of a two-day in-person workshop, where you will not only develop the skills required to calculate your business' carbon footprint, but also the knowledge required to plan your next steps and share your carbon commitments with your customers.
Working in small groups with like-minded businesses, you will learn about the drivers for creating an organisational footprint, discover the data you'll need and where to find it, gain awareness of standards for calculating emissions and access global emissions databases to calculate your carbon. We will also explore the jargon around net zero and your next steps.
You will leave this course with so much more than just a number, fully equipped to be more than just a bystander in the race to net zero.

12hr B-Corp: Using Business as a Force for Good Workshop

A workshop that will outline what is required to obtain B-Corp status and guide you through the initial stages.

60hr Future Climate Leaders

A short course aimed at organisations wanting to upskill their existing workforce to support the organisation to reduce their carbon footprint and develop sustainable business practices. As well as a practical approach to action planning, the course will include various sustainable leadership approaches.
