Even though we use a very small number of animals, we are constantly striving to find ways in which to reduce that number still further.
We are committed to the upholding the principles of the 3Rs – Reduction, Replacement, Refinement as originally proposed by Burch and Russell (Russell W. and Burch R. (1959) The Principles of Humane Experimental Technique. London UK: Methuen).
Our work in this area is well-recognised and we have received funding from specialist 3Rs organisations include National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs) and the Dr Hadwen Trust.
We operate to the best practice guidelines provided in the NC3Rs ARRIVE guidelines, overseen by our 3Rs Advisory Group.
