The University of Plymouth’s Annual Report and Financial Statements for 2022/23 have been published online, this week.
In the report’s introduction, Pro-Chancellor and Chair of the Board of Governors, Professor Simon Gaskell and Vice Chancellor, Professor Dame Judith Petts DBE describe the University as "a powerhouse for progress in our city, our region and beyond."
Alongside detailed accounts for the year, the report gives examples of the University’s impact and achievements during the last academic year, plus how it’s progressing against the goals outlined in its 2030 Strategy , despite the ongoing challenges facing the higher education (HE) sector.

Our steadfast commitment to sustainability plays out across all subjects and areas of expertise, as well as in our finances where – as you will see in this report – we have generated a robust £13.4 million operating surplus which is enabling us to deliver the Campus Masterplan so vital to the University and Plymouth.

Our total income was £265.3 million, and we remain in good financial health, with cash balances of £128.4 million. We do not take financial sustainability for granted at a time when the whole HE sector is underfunded in its core activities.

Hard-won accolades include becoming the second carbon neutral university in the UK , recognising Plymouth’s pioneering efforts in climate innovation, research and teaching, as well as a triple Gold rating in the Office for Students’ Teaching and Excellence Framework (TEF), which puts the University in the top tier of universities and colleges for excellent quality and standards.
Further stories of research, innovations, and wider successes will follow in the University’s 2023 Annual Review, due to be published in spring 2024.
