The clinic has disabled access. Disabled drivers using our facility may park in the pay and display bays or resident parking bays in the immediate area free of charge as long as a valid blue badge and clock is displayed.
There are several car parks within walking distance of the clinic, namely Regent Street car park, Mayflower House Court, Mayflower Street East and Mayflower Street West. A full list of car parks and their locations can be found on the Plymouth City Council website.
The clinic is also accessible via numerous public transport routes, please refer to the Plymouth City Council website for details.

Providing a range of eyecare services

Our eye care clinic, the Centre for Eyecare Excellence (C.E.E) provides a wide range of eye care services to the community, including eye examinations, spectacle dispensing, contact lens fittings, and specialist clinics for children, individuals with visual impairments, and those with specific eye conditions.
The C.E.E is operated by fully qualified professionals, with some services provided by student optometrists under the supervision of highly trained and qualified staff. This approach ensures high-quality care at competitive prices while also serving as a cutting-edge teaching facility for undergraduate and postgraduate optometry students.
The clinic is situated in Gibbon Street, close to the city-centre campus .
Due to an increase in student numbers, we have expanded our clinic to two separate locations. Many of our specialist clinics are now held on the second floor of the Wellbeing Centre. As a result, your appointments may occasionally be scheduled across both sites. The second location is just a five-minute walk away, and we are happy to guide you and provide a map to assist with directions.

Comprehensive assessments conducted by third-year student optometrists under supervision of qualified staff.

Assesses suitability and fits a range of contact lenses tailored to individual needs and lifestyles.

Paediatric Clinics
Child-friendly eye examinations and a selection of spectacles and contact lenses designed for children, including those with special needs.
Myopia Control Clinic
Evidence-based optical treatments aimed at slowing down myopia progression in children and young adults.
Visual Impairment Assessments
Specialist clinics for individuals whose sight cannot be corrected with conventional glasses or contact lenses.
Colorimetry Assessments
Determines the potential benefits of using coloured lenses or overlays for those experiencing visual stress.
Binocular Vision Assessments
Investigates and manages issues related to eye alignment and coordination.
Dry Eye Assessments
Identifies causes of dry eyes and recommends appropriate treatments.
Specialist Neuro-Visual Clinics
Conducted in partnership with the Stroke Association, focusing on visual issues related to neurological conditions.

Private eye test offer

We offer discounted eye tests for University of Plymouth staff, NHS workers, armed forces, emergency services and carers. These tests last approximately 45 minutes, are with a fully qualified Optometrist and cost only £25 instead of £35.
This offer is available through the year on selected days. Alongside discounted sight tests we also offer 10% discount on our wide range of frames. This also can be applied to stock prescription and non-prescription sunglasses, prescription safety spectacles, prescription swimming goggles and sport spectacles.

The Centre for Eyecare Excellence is expanding

We are launching a new state-of-the-art facility to increase our delivery of optometry teaching and patient care.
The new Centre for Eyecare Excellence (CEE) will offer more appointments to the public, delivered by students under supervision, alongside specialist clinics. The facility on our city centre campus will offer a student experience at the forefront of healthcare delivery and be spacious and accessible for visitors attending appointments.

G All eyecare appointments at the existing CEE on Gibbon Street will continue as normal while the new development takes shape.
