"Upon graduating from Plymouth University in 2010, I began working for Royal Bank of Scotland as a Customer Service Assistant. Whilst this position was not a graduate role it did give me vital experience as a working professional and a huge insight into the financial sector. After working for RBS for 8 months, I took an exciting opportunity to move to Belgium and commence a graduate role for AES International in the Brussels office. AES is the largest regulated financial services firm operating across the world and has recently been named the fastest growing financial company in the UK by the Sunday Times. As a Relationship Manager, my main responsibility is to support existing and prospective clients and so speaking with people is a large part of my day to day work. I set up meetings with clients, discuss their financial needs and ensure they are kept well informed and given the best possible financial advice. It is vital I keep up to date with the latest products, financial laws and also keep an eye on current economic issues. I have sales targets and am expected to meet these by bringing in new clients to increase business. Moving abroad was not a decision I took lightly, but it appeared to be a fantastic opportunity to begin a rewarding career that promises great success for the hardworking. In a short space of time I have proven myself to be extremely successful in my current job role, bringing record numbers of business to the company. I have thrived working in a high pressure environment and have particularly enjoyed dealing with some of the highest net worth clients worldwide.
As you would expect, Brussels is a brilliant place to live and work. With the presence of the European Commission and Parliament in Brussels, the city is buzzing with International people and so the majority of my day I am conversing with senior professionals within these Institutions and also within a number of blue chip companies with EU headquarters based in Benelux. Alongside working in my current role, I am studying for a Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning. I should gain this qualification within the next 12months and then hope to progress into the position of Private Client Adviser for AES. Of course, I attribute a lot of my recent career success to my time at Plymouth University. Plymouth gave me all the necessary skills to be successful and I am tremendously grateful."
