Calling University of Plymouth students! The University has linked with Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership to offer you the opportunity to explore the incredible beauty around Devon and Cornwall.
We are offering a free monthly walking group for students with all travel expenses provided, using Great Western Railway to travel via train to destinations along the Tamar Valley Line and more.
The walking group provides students with the opportunity to develop social connections with others and help alleviate stressors related to studies and academic pressures through exercise, spending time outdoors and connecting with nature. It offers students the chance to discover the incredible beauty around Devon and Cornwall and demonstrate how accessible it is through the use of public transport.
  • Meet on the 3rd Wednesday of every month.
  • Free event – all travel expenses provided through Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership.
  • Exploring a new area or Devon or Cornwall each month.

About this walk...
  • Join us to walk Bere Alston, a charming village in west Devon set on the Bere Peninsula between the Rivers Tamar and Tavy.
  • We'll be met by local historian and ex University of Plymouth Geography lecturer, Clive Charlton. Clive will lead us on a walk to Weir Quay and will give us some fascinating history of the area along the way. The cafe at Weir Quay will be open and are expecting us.
  • Meet on the Students' Union roof at 11:45 before we set off for the railway station.
  • We will be catching the 12:28 train to Bere Alston and arriving back in Plymouth by 16:00.
Please wear suitable footwear for walking and appropriate clothing for the weather conditions. Please note this walk is not suitable for students with mobility issues.
