The Maritime Regulatory Innovation Framework (MRIF) project, funded by the UK government's Regulators’ Pioneers Fund, is a collaborative effort aimed at developing innovative regulatory frameworks to support the rapidly evolving maritime sector. Plymouth City Council is leading the consortium to deliver this project.
The University of Plymouth, Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), supported by Stehr Consulting Ltd, are leading on the maritime autonomy aspect of the project. This initiative focuses on addressing regulatory challenges that impede the research, development and testing of new maritime technologies.
The MRIF project seeks to address these challenges by proposing a new regulatory framework that will allow for safe, timely and cost-effective prototyping of innovative marine technologies, without compromising safety. This framework is crucial not only for advancing the UK’s maritime autonomy capabilities but also for ensuring that innovation in this sector can proceed without unnecessary regulatory barriers.
This briefing session will give an insight into the project's expectations and to follow up there will be an opportunity for attendees to feed in via a secondary face-to-face meeting on Thursday 24 October at the University of Plymouth.
