As part of the South West Developing a Research Skilled Workforce, we are delighted to invite you to attend our regional conference in April 2025.
This is a free, one-day event, funded by NHSE and hosted by the Faculty of Health, University of Plymouth.
The event will showcase and celebrate research and evidence-based projects undertaken by the health, science and social care workforce across the South West of England.
The research curious, research active, and research leaders are warmly welcomed.

Programme
The day will involve guest speaker presentations, panel discussions, interactive workshops, oral and poster presentations, and networking opportunities.
Confirmed speakers include Dr Joanne Cooper (PhD RN), NHSE Head of Nursing Research (Research Transformation) for CNO Policy and Strategy Unit, Professor Ruth Endacott, NIHR Director of Nursing and Midwifery, and Dr Lisa Ledger, Assistant Director of Allied Health Professions.

Submission of Abstracts – now open

Presenting at the conference is a great platform to share your knowledge, expertise and lessons learned, whilst inspiring and supporting others to get involved in research.
Submission of abstracts closes at 23:59 on Sunday 17 November 2024.
Help us to showcase and celebrate the success of our South West region!
We welcome all abstracts of clinical research and evidence-based project activity in the region. We also welcome topics that most interest you as a researcher.
If you can, please try to connect your abstract to one of with one or more of these six themes from our NHSE South West Strategy for Developing a Research Skilled Workforce 2023–26 aims:
• Invest in and nurture our workforce
• Improve access and equity
• Lead by example
• Support South West research priorities
• Grow our influence
• Create a thriving research culture.

Submission guidance for abstracts

Please read the following guidance carefully before beginning the submission process.

We welcome research projects, as well as examples of using evidence to change practice (audits and service evaluation), from anyone in an early stage of their research career. Abstracts may be research focused, education or clinically focused. Work being presented should not be in the early planning stages.
When submitting your abstract, please indicate whether you are:
• Research Aware
E.g., you are aware of the benefits of research and evidence, you keep up to date with the evidence in your area, you aim to implement relevant evidence within your practice (using audit and service evaluation), and you know how to access research information and other sources of evidence.
• Research Active
E.g., you are involved in your own or someone else's research study (such as completing a masters project, recruiting for a larger study, doing a PhD, working on a systematic review etc.), you reflect and think critically about your practice and are looking for opportunities to start a research study (e.g., you are planning a project).
• Researcher Leader
E.g., as above for research active but also lead on research education, training, mentoring, and working to facilitate and support others to do research.

Please submit abstracts on topics that most interest you as a researcher. When submitting an abstract, if you can, please try to align your abstract with one (or more) of the six themes listed in the 'Submission of Abstracts' column where possible.

Please limit your abstract to 400 words. You must be a named author if submitting an abstract.
Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to produce an online poster, accompanied by a 90-second presentation. This will be made available on our dedicated webpage ‘Developing a Research Skilled Workforce’, which delegates will be invited to visit during and after the conference.
Abstracts may also be selected for inclusion in the conference, either as a poster presentation to be displayed at the Rolle Marquee or an oral presentation to be shared on the day of the conference.
If the abstract is selected for either oral or poster presentation at the conference, a place will be automatically reserved for one of the named authors to attend. Please note that any expenses associated with submission and presentation of the abstract (including conference travel) are the responsibility of the presenter.
Abstracts which have similar content and have been presented at other conferences may be submitted for consideration.
