Shoresearch is The Wildlife Trusts' national citizen science survey of the intertidal shore, the exciting world of extremes where the sea meets the land. It's a great way to explore your local coast, learn more about the wildlife found there and add to our understanding of this important habitat.
You'll be trained to identify and record the marine life found on our local shores. The data collected by this project helps The Wildlife Trusts to monitor our fragile sea life and better understand the effects of pollution, climate change and invasive alien species. Shoresearch data has been key to designating many of our Marine Conservation Zones.
This free event is aimed mainly at adults with an interest in intertidal marine life identification and surveying. The event will involve walking over slippery rocks, so wellies/sturdy boots are essential and please dress for the weather.
Select dates from the list below for full details on Eventbrite and to register attendance. Events are weather dependent so please check your emails close to the day in case of cancellation.
Please note: National Trust car parking charges apply to non-members at Wembury Beach car park. Meet outside Wembury Marine Centre (PL9 0HP) just before the start time listed.
Contact Coral Smith for any queries (email: info@wemburymarinecentre.org / tel: 01752 862538).

Wembury Marine Centre

Wembury in South Devon is a magnet for wildlife – its rocky cliffs are home to nesting seabirds and the rocky shore, slate reefs and massive wave-cut platforms provide one of the UK’s best spots for marine life. Wembury and the surrounding coastline form a Marine Conservation Area (MCA) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). Wembury Marine Centre is the ideal place to learn about the surrounding area and its wildlife through interactive displays, regular rockpool and snorkel safaris, and other marine themed events. The Centre is managed by Devon Wildlife Trust on behalf of a partnership of funders including the University of Plymouth Marine Institute.
Visit the Wembury Marine Centre website for further information.
