In this ICE (South West) talk, Chris Brown, a civil structural maritime and coastal engineer, will be looking back on his career and reflecting on the errors, mistakes and worse, and how they were overcome and could perhaps have been avoided. These are not topics often discussed by civil engineers but were presented at the International Conference on Coastal Engineering in Rome this September.
This presentation is concerned with the design, construction and inspection of revetments, seawalls and breakwaters, looking at the problems that can occur with independent advisers, testing laboratories and the maintenance of structures.
Chris will look into his 60 year career to show problems that he encountered and some remediations that were achieved, or in some cases the eventual failure of an asset.
