The purpose of the Marine Research Plymouth (MRP) research dialogue series is to build a culture of communication and collaboration across the marine research community in Plymouth. The events are hosted on rotation at the University of Plymouth, Plymouth Marine Laboratory and the Marine Biological Association.
The event is open to all researchers in Plymouth that are engaged in relevant research to the theme. We also encourage researchers to attend who would like to know more about this topic and how it might connect with their own research. We hope that this dialogue will raise awareness of Plymouth marine scientists' work and facilitate new synergies between researchers.
This dialogue will explore the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in advancing ocean science, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue between MRP experts in marine observation, data analytics, and AI-driven technologies.
The event will cover cutting-edge applications, including machine learning (ML) for monitoring and forecasting extreme marine events like marine heatwaves or harmful algal blooms, alongside predictions of ecological ocean dynamics and biodiversity shifts. Discussions will include multi-platform synergies, integrating in situ, remote sensing, and other data sources to enhance ocean parameter estimation and monitoring accuracy. The dialogue will also highlight advancements in autonomous ocean vehicles and robotics, showcasing how these innovations are driving the integration of AI and big data in marine observations. We encourage interdisciplinary talks on the potential of AI-driven approaches to support the enforcement of laws and policies aimed at protecting and conserving the marine environment.
We warmly invite researchers interested in exploring how AI-driven ocean science might intersect with their own work to join this dialogue. This event aims to showcase the latest contributions of MRP scientists while fostering connections across disciplines. The MRP dialogues strive to cultivate a culture of collaboration and communication within our marine research community, paving the way for exciting new projects, studentships, and impactful publications. Through this exchange, we aim to create a more dynamic and integrated research environment, ultimately driving tangible benefits for research and innovation.
The event will be followed by an opportunity for extended informal discussions over drinks and nibbles.
Registration is essential by Friday 21 March if you wish to attend. Please note this event is only for the internal research community.
