Welcome to our new students arriving in January 2025.
We hope you can attend this welcome day filled with sessions to help you settle in to life in Plymouth.
There is no need to book; simply turn up on the day for the start time of 09:45.
If you cannot make this day, do not worry. Follow the checklist for important things to do after you arrive in the UK to study and visit the Student Hub in the Library if you have any questions when you arrive.
There will also be an international student settling in event on Wednesday 12 March, which you will be invited to nearer the time.

10:00–10:10 Official welcome from the Vice-Chancellor
A warm welcome to the University of Plymouth from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Richard Davies.
10:10–10:30 Hello from the Student Hub and Pastoral & Spiritual Support
An introduction to the Student Hub and the various services which are available to support you while studying here, including a 'hello' from Pastoral & Spiritual Support.
10:30–10:50 Student immigration support
Find out more about your visa conditions and everything immigration related.
10:50–11:50 Academic culture and English language support
Student Learning and the English Language Centre will outline what academic writing looks like and where to find ongoing support to develop your academic and English skills, and build study confidence. They will guide you through the academic system, from what lecturers expect of you and the importance of academic rules and regulations.
11:50–12:00 Careers Service
An introduction to the University's Careers Service and how the team can support you, from looking for part-time work to fit around your studies, developing your CV or gaining work experience, to finding a career mentor.
12:00–13:00 Lunch (included) and information stands/helpdesks: UPSU, Careers, Student Hub, Digital Champions and Library
Meet the University staff who are here to help YOU! Visit all the helpdesks and complete the quiz for a chance to win a goody bag!
13:00–13:15 Your Students’ Union says ‘Hi!’
Meet your Students' Union and find out what fantastic student groups, social events and support is on offer.
13:15–13:35 Staying safe in Plymouth: the local police welcome you
Meet our local police diversity officers who will provide advice on staying safe while living and enjoying yourself in Plymouth
13:35–13:45 Speak Up and Student Code of Conduct
Find out what we expect of our students and how to report any unwanted behaviour.
13:45–14:00 Our student journey
Learn about British culture and the differences you may encounter. Our student ambassadors share their experiences as international students.
