The South West Global Health Collaborative (GHC) is pleased to announce the next event in its Lunchtime Lecture series.
These hybrid lectures are open to all who are interested, and offer a space in which to network and discuss all matters relating to Global Health.
The lecture is entitled 'Building Skills and Empowering Communities: The Oyoko Optical Technician Training Experience' and will be given by Dr Daniela Oehring . The lecture will reflect on the establishment of the Optical Technician Training Institute in Oyoko, Ghana, over two decades ago. It will discuss the initial challenges and collaborations with local and international partners to address the shortage of trained optical technicians. The session will highlight the impact of the training programme, emphasising its role in enhancing local healthcare and the key lessons learned that have guided subsequent global health initiatives. This retrospective will offer valuable lessons on sustainable educational projects in global health.

Attendance

The lecture can be attended in person, online via Zoom or you can request a recording.
If you would like to be informed of any GHC activities in the future or would like to sign up to the Global Health newsletter, please email globalhealth@plymouth.ac.uk.

Global Health Collaborative

The Global Health Collaborative (GHC) was set up in 2016 to bring together individuals and organisations, across Plymouth and the wider South West, who have an interest in or are already working in, global health.
The GHC is sponsored by Health Education England and looks to harness and utilise expertise, enthusiasm and innovative thinking from a broad range of health and associated professionals. The collaborative draws together clinicians, academics and researchers from within the University and the NHS, in its bid to contribute to the development of sustainable global health projects, through the effective delivery, evaluation and coordination of their management.
