FUTURES: A Festival of Discovery is a public engagement collaboration between the University of Bath, Bath Spa University, University of Bristol, University of Exeter and University of Plymouth. 
Since 2018, for two days in the autumn, FUTURES has been an opportunity for people to discover more about the research that is shaping our future with researchers from the region’s universities. 
Funded by UK Research and Innovation, FUTURES brings research to life by giving you the opportunity to get creative, ask questions and try new things. 
With something for every age, FUTURES brings science, culture and research to life in new and exciting ways. This year's exciting line-up in Plymouth will feature FREE in-person events suitable for all ages, providing a fun and interactive learning experience for the whole family.

The Big Talk: Harnessing the ocean's energy – Thursday 19 September

Join us for our FUTURES Public Lecture as Professor Deborah Greaves OBE FREng shares the latest advances toward a future of widespread, eco-friendly ocean power, with Plymouth leading the way!
Deborah, Professor of Ocean Engineering, is one of the country’s foremost experts in offshore renewable energy. Her expertise spans two decades, having published over 180 peer-reviewed papers, and she is Director of the University’s Coastal, Ocean and Sediment Transport (COAST) laboratory, which is one of Europe’s leading facilities driving innovation in wind, tidal and wave technologies.

Discover the wonder of science, technology, and art: an engaging interactive showcase for all ages! Immerse yourself in hands-on activities and demos guided by research experts, and even meet our delightful talking robotic pets. Join us for an unforgettable experience! All are welcome to join us, whether dropping in or staying all day.

Futures: A Festival of Discovery
 

Geo Tours @ Voyage of Discovery – Saturday 5 October

Did you know Drake’s Island was formed from volcanic rock? Or that you can fossil hunt right here in Plymouth?
Join geologist Dr Jodie Fisher for a venture through time that turns Royal William Yard and surrounding areas of the South West Coast Path into a living museum. From the natural landscape of Devil’s Point, to the building blocks used to create Royal William Yard’s grand buildings, the Geo Trail reveals the stories in the stones. Jodie will share her expertise and answer your questions on a tour with views of the River Tamar. This event is suitable for all the family.
Time/venue: Guided tours are at 10:00–11:00, 12:00–13:00 and 14:00–15:00 (maximum 20 places each). Please arrive five minutes before your start time outside the Royal William Yard Gatehouse.
