The annual Cornwall Community Flood Forum Conference takes place at the Royal Cornwall Showground and online on Friday 8 November with speakers from a wide range of organisations including from the University of Plymouth in the morning, and workshops in the afternoon.
The organisers hope to encourage as many as people as possible to join them in person to view the various stands and network throughout the day, as well as take part in interactive workshops. 
This year’s theme is ‘How communities can help themselves; building resilience to flooding and coastal change’.
The conference is free and all are welcome. Free refreshments and lunch will be provided for those attending the conference in person.

Programme

Morning talks

Session 1 (09:45–10:05): Flooding
Includes speakers from Flood Mary, JBA Consulting, Chacewater Emergency Planning Group and Hampshire Young Persons Emergency Response network.
Session 2 (11:35–12:35): Community resilience, from a coastal perspective in Cornwall
Includes speakers from the Environment Agency, the University of Plymouth, Polzeath Beach Ranger Service and Cornwall Community Flood Forum. 
Plenary session 6: 'Importance of local knowledge and understanding for building resilience to coastal change' will be delivered by Professor Gerd Masselink, Professor of Coastal Geomorphology from the University of Plymouth, and the Making Space for Sand Project.
The morning talks will end with a Q&A session/panel.

Afternoon workshops

Open to those attending in person, the workshops are: • How to empower our local communities • Experience what it is like being in someone else's shoes • How prepared are you?
School children will learn about the reintroduction of beavers as nature-based solutions in combating the effects of climate change and take part in a flood modelling activity based around the area of their school, using pre-made Lego houses and ‘flood water’ AKA cold tea!

Displays

There will be everything from the Floodmatik trailer, where you can see automatic flood barriers in operation, to the Making Space for Sand Coastal Change Time Machine, an interactive exhibit that allows you to go back in time to view Cornwall’s coastal communities, before launching into the future of what the coastline could look like.
