Key features

This 40 credit module will equip you with the skills and underpinning knowledge to apply a systematic, informed and effective approach to the understanding, care and management of adults with gastrointestinal disease.
You will develop an in-depth knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal system in both health and disease and be able to give appropriate and effective health education and life-style advice to patients with gastrointestinal disease and their carers.
The module is normally delivered as two study blocks, both of five days’ duration, with normally a six-week interval for application of theory and learning to the development of clinical skills. A variety of educational approaches are used including: lectures; case studies; seminars; tutorials; practical workshops; discussions; self-directed study; and relevant visits.
This module can be studied as a standalone module or as an optional module towards some of our BSc (Hons) Professional Development in Health and Social Care pathways - please contact the Professional Development Unit for further information.
