In PoLT, alongside the usual session in which the development of teaching/learning resources was explored, students are now also encouraged to consider the sustainability of their resources, adapting an activity from the ‘Linkingthinking’ resources for teachers (Sterling et al, 2005).
They were also introduced to the concept of sustainable communities of practice (Stuckey and Smith, 2004) to encourage student teachers to identify colleagues from whom they can receive support, and as they develop, provide mutual support to avoid the isolation that new teachers often experience (Summers, 2005).
