Digital Health Champions are nursing students and members of the public working together on a journey to better understand how digital technologies can be beneficial to healthcare.

Through the project, participants can improve their own digital skills and in turn help others, such as people living with long-term conditions or people who support others with long-term conditions.

The event brings together service users, carers, students, and organisations to explore this unique model, celebrate and discuss the research findings, share personal experiences of supporting communities, and highlight the steps being taken to build the model into the curriculum. It is a great opportunity to network with others, and explore digital health globally.

Speakers

Simon Culley

Simon Culley is Communications Officer and Digital Lead for Healthwatch Torbay, the independent healthcare consumer champion for Torbay, South Devon. He has degrees in journalism and business studies and a working background in marketing, press relations, digital journalism and website content publishing.

For the past few years Simon has been managing the Healthwatch Torbay feedback centre, an online tool which allows the public to rate & review local healthcare services. This has led to him currently leading a Devon ‘Digital Inclusion’ project, set up to show the public – mainly the over 50 population – how to use the internet to do things like book appointments, order prescriptions or self-refer to local healthcare services.

eHealth and Technology Research Group

This research group is focused on the impact and implementation of eHealth, on patients' use of the internet, and online collaborative learning between patients and professionals.

Assessing the impact of eHealth usually involves an interdisciplinary approach and we have projects and proposals at the various stages of evaluation from exploratory work, through pilots to randomised trials. We are particularly focused on embedding eHealth in the nursing curriculum with our students as ‘agents of change’.
