This workshop took place from 11–14 March 2024 and was hosted by the Sustainable Earth Institute, Marine Institute and Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research.
National and international funders are paying increasing attention to the role of indigenous or local environmental knowledge (LEK) in the co-design of solutions that support climate change adaptation and mitigation from land to sea.
Embedding knowledge from the community and other critical sectors into evidence bases requires participatory working but many researchers in environmental and marine fields have limited experience and capacity in this field.
This workshop aimed to develop our collective capacity to work across discipline and sectoral boundaries for ODA research impact by (i) showcasing ODA research success stories and evaluating best practice/ingredients of impact outcomes, (ii) providing space for peer-to-peer knowledge exchange on impact research implementation challenges and solutions to grow capacity for participatory practice, (iii) develop a shared vision of research and knowledge exchange priorities to support climate change adaptation and mitigation.
