The United Nations Development programme has placed food as the second highest item on its priority list which includes in total 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Agri-food value chains, the people/businesses involved in the agricultural production and processing of food from production through to consumption, play an important role in providing food security and reducing hunger worldwide. Many countries in the world are undergoing a cost of living crisis and it is urgent that stakeholders at all stages of the food value chain can come together to address various issues collectively.
Taking a holistic approach, this workshop brought together local communities, charities, businesses, practitioners, researchers, and other interested individuals and organisations to discuss how to tackle the food crisis from a value chain perspective.
Invited speakers provided insights in some of the intertwined solutions supported by emerging digital technologies, for example, communities of practice, virtual networks, knowledge sharing and e-collaboration. These collective efforts can enhance the resilience of agri-food value chains and help to address the current food crisis.
This workshop was led by Professor Shaofeng Liu, Professor of Operations Management and Decision Making, and Dr Lise Hunter, Lecturer in Business Strategy and International Trade.
This event was open to anyone interested in food supply chains, including communities, farmers/producers and policymakers etc, and was of particular interest to the farming community and the food sharing community.
