This event introduced the exciting world of place-based learning to children and families.
This child-centred approach empowers families to creatively explore their neighbourhood. Discovered through our Erasmus+ project, UPPScale, we were thrilled to share it with students and researchers, marking the first time parents engaged with this method.
Place-based learning nurtures children's sense of independence, fostering connections to their community, a love for nature, and a grasp of sustainability – all contributing to lifelong wellbeing.
Part 1:
Families, along with Early Childhood and BEd Primary students from the University, collaborated to design projects exploring places the children are curious about during the half term week. Supported by students and daily virtual catch-up sessions, each family executed their unique project.
Part 2 (date decided in consultation with families):
Children, families and students then reconvened at a later date to share their experiences. An exhibition at the Rolle Building was planned to showcase their projects to other teams and Plymouth stakeholders, including Nudge Community Builders and Plymouth City Council.
This engaging half term activity concluded with a child-led exhibition which was arranged after the break. Parents were invited to explore with us and nurture their child's creativity and community connection. This event was aimed at children (pre-school and primary school age) and their families.
