Save event
Blooming Well is a community-based gardening therapy group began by the Mustard Tree Macmillan Cancer Support Centre in 2022 for patients with a cancer diagnosis to help promote their wellbeing and recovery.
This drop-in event was an opportunity for members of the local community to gain an overview of the unique context and focus of Blooming Well. Participants who attended the event:
  • explored the natural environment of Blooming Well
  • found out the benefits of the project highlighted in recent research with the University of Plymouth*
  • gained ideas of the focus of the sessions
  • received information on how to access the group.
The event was of interest to those living with cancer and people who support individuals living with cancer (e.g. social care workers and students) in the local area.
Blooming Well can be found at: Sheepstor Village Hall, Sheepstor, Dartmoor PL20 6PF (directions and map).

*This project was funded by the University's Get Involved Awards 2022. Research undertaken by occupational therapy academics from the University evaluated the project and have devised a strategy for conducting future research to collect data that will measure the potential for the intervention to promote physical, psychological, emotional, and social wellbeing and restoration when living with or recovering from cancer. Please contact alison.warren@plymouth.ac.uk, kerryann.steele@plymouth.ac.uk or melissa.jacobs@plymouth.ac.uk with any research queries.
