Combining expert knowledge of floating offshore wind (FLOW) with state-of-the-art testing facilities, the University is helping to solve industry issues around port movements, deployment, operations, maintenance and survivability of floating offshore wind platforms.
Our support includes:
- access to our
world-class facilities , researchers and technicians for businesses to develop new approaches in Floating Offshore Wind (FLOW) - numerical analysis, physical modelling and virtual simulation of FLOW devices, operations and enabling technologies
- access to wider university capability including materials characterisation and remote and autonomous vehicles
- opportunities for businesses in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly to engage with this project through events and workshops to find out how they can explore their ideas through research and development-led activities.
Deborah is one of the country’s foremost experts in offshore renewable energy and Director of the University’s COAST Lab.

Coastal, Ocean and Sediment Transport lab
The COAST laboratory provides a physical model testing with combined waves, currents and wind, offered at scales appropriate for device testing, array testing, environmental modelling and coastal engineering.
UK Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Test facility
The EPSRC-funded UK Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Test facility is a first-of-its-kind facility within the UK, that enables physical modelling experiments with wind, wave, and currents simultaneously.
Maritime Simulation Laboratory
The University of Plymouth’s Maritime Simulation Laboratory offers an innovative networking solution that allows real-time collaboration between multiple simulators, software, or hardware.
Floating offshore wind solutions for Celtic Sea developers
