Striking examples of student creativity will go on show to the public at HOT’15, Plymouth University’s art and design degree show.

For around two weeks, more than 500 pieces of work spanning a range of artistic disciplines will adorn the walls and floors of venues across the city.

The culmination of several years’ work, the event launches on Saturday 13 June and is a showcase of the incredible talent and potential being nurtured at the University.

But it is also an opportunity for graduating students to engage with a critical audience, in many instances for the first time, with some of them being available for commission and their works for sale.

The free public exhibition is being staged in the Roland Levinsky Building and Scott Building on the University campus, and the Mills Bakery and Slaughterhouse at Royal William Yard.

Professor Dafydd Moore, Executive Dean of Arts and Humanities at Plymouth University, said:

“Plymouth University is blessed with hundreds of talented arts students, and HOT’15 is an opportunity for them, their lecturers and tutors to celebrate their achievements. For many of them, what people will see is the product of years of hard work and the results are something of which they can all be very proud. We now hope the creativity and imagination nurtured during their studies at Plymouth University can inspire them to even greater success in their future careers.”

HOT’15 will feature works by final year students from 3D Design, Fine Art, Illustration, Media and TV Arts, Photography, Digital Media and Animation, Architecture, Graphic Communication with Typography, and Digital Art and Design.

There are sculptures, paintings, photographic collections, illustrations and digital innovations, many with interactive elements designed to capture visitors’ imaginations.

And while many of the works have been completed in various studios within the University, other students have drawn inspiration within Plymouth, the South West and beyond.

As well as the public showcase, the student achievements will be celebrated with a concert by US – comprising legendary musicians Herbie Flowers, Chris Spedding, Malcolm Mortimore and Derek Austin – who will take to the stage in the Rolle Marquee on Thursday 18 June.

It will also coincide with Plymouth University’s Big Festival Weekend, being held on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June, which will include opportunities for the public to tour cutting edge University facilities alongside activities for alumni and families.

The show will be open to the public Monday to Friday, 10am-5pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 4pm.
