Dental student

More dentists will be trained in treating the ‘source of tooth pain’ thanks to a new postgraduate programme launching in January 2021.

The University of Plymouth is running MSc Endodontics, and welcomes Dr Federico Foschi, Professor and Consultant of Endodontics, as programme lead.

Endodontics focuses on the causes, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases and injuries of the teeth's dental pulp. Professor Foschi is the current Training Program Director for Endodontics on behalf of Health Education England, and has published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers in the discipline.

MSc Endodontics joins the four existing postgraduate programmes run in the University’s Peninsula Dental School: MSc Restorative Dentistry, MSc Oral Surgery, MSc Periodontology, and the Faculty of General Dental Practice (FDGP) Articulation route.

Applications are now open via the University of Plymouth website.

Professor Foschi said:

“Endodontics is such an important branch of dentistry as it deals with the part of the tooth which is often the source of pain – the tooth pulp. By training more dentists in this discipline – which they can complete part time around their existing clinical work – we can look to upskill our dedicated profession. I’m delighted to join my colleagues here at Plymouth and am pleased to bring my international training and expertise to the team.”

“We pride ourselves on the clinical and research-led expertise of our staff, so it’s fantastic to welcome Professor Foschi to the Peninsula Dental School. The MSc in Endodontics adds to our exciting existing postgraduate offer, and we look forward to welcoming our first students in January 2021.”
