A chemistry lecturer at the University of Plymouth has won a national award for innovative teaching.
Dr Lowry won for his approach to assessment using Smart Worksheets both formatively (while the students are learning) and summatively (testing their knowledge).
The project, which focused on the science foundation year at the University, utilised Smart Worksheets to assess students’ practical work and subsequent calculations, giving them immediate feedback.
Over the past six years, more than 2,000 assessments have been marked using the technology, with results showing that it enhanced students’ scientific understanding as well as making marking more efficient.
