University of Plymouth experts in everything from history and music to chemistry and microplastics are holding a family-friendly event at Plymouth’s Royal William Yard, this Saturday (5 October).
The Voyage of Discovery is an opportunity for the public to immerse themselves in a wide range of free hands-on activities and demonstrations, guided by leading academics from more than 25 of the University’s research projects.
Some drop-in spaces will be available on the day, but booking is advised as 1,200 people have signed up already and the venue capacity is 1,500.
The event runs from 10am to 4pm and the programme is online, along with details of how to get tickets.
And, thanks to Plymouth Citybus, Voyage of Discovery ticketholders can travel free of charge on Route 34, by showing their e-ticket to the driver.
The University’s Head of Regional and Civic Engagement, Jenny Milligan says:
“Everyone is welcome to join us at the Royal William Yard’s historic Melville Building and, whether you’re dropping in or staying all day, there’s fun for the whole family – and we’re indoors, so we’re ready for whatever the weather throws us!”
This weekend’s event is part of FUTURES, a free festival of discovery taking place in the South West across venues in Bath, Bristol, Devon, Exeter, Plymouth and online this Autumn.
The festival is a unique opportunity to find out more about the innovative and world-class research taking place at universities across the region.
With something for every age, FUTURES brings science, culture and research to life in new and exciting ways. It includes late-night museum openings, hands-on activities, exhibitions, storytelling, talks, walks, scavenger hunts and much more.
