The University of Plymouth’s new home for healthcare teaching and research is the only project shortlisted for three prizes at the prestigious Michelmores Property Awards 2024.
As well as recognising the transformation of the building into a state-of-the-art educational facility, the shortlistings also acknowledge a wider team including architects Stride Treglown, main contractor Kier and a number of other regional and national partners.
The Michelmores Property Awards celebrate outstanding property and construction projects in Bristol, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in June 2024.
The project to revitalise InterCity Place, officially opened by Angela Rippon CBE in November 2023, has breathed new life into one of Plymouth’s most iconic buildings.
Now home to the
School of Nursing and Midwifery
and
School of Health Professions
, it has created a series of clinical suites and laboratories that are training and developing the next generation of nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, optometrists and social workers.
It also furthers the University’s commitment to sustainability, which in 2023 saw it become only the second university in the UK to secure carbon neutral status.
This is the second time this month that InterCity Place has been nominated for awards, after it made the regional shortlist in the Refurbishment and Revitalisation category of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) UK Awards for 2024.
