A new text book for dental students and recently-graduated dentists edited by a dental expert from Plymouth University and including contributions from six of her colleagues, is set to make an important contribution to dental education.
Professor Liz Kay, Foundation Dean of the Peninsula Dental School at Plymouth University and a nationally-recognised dental public health expert, has edited “Dentistry at a Glance”, the central title in the “At a Glance” series for dental students published by Wiley.
Included in the book are contributions from her colleagues at Plymouth University Peninsula School of Dentistry including Dr Ian Mills, Professor David Moles, Dr Robert Witton, Dr Kamran Ali, Dr Malcolm Bruce and Dr Matthew Jerreat.
“Dentistry at a Glance” leads readers through what is required by the General Dental Council of dental learning, from the principles of core issues such as patient confidentiality and taking a patient history, to diagnosis and treatment in key clinical areas. These include medical emergencies, endodontics, dental trauma, oral medicine and pathology, the medically-compromised patient, and orthodontics.
The book also includes sections on oral healthcare issues and crucial practical guidance on running a dental practice.
According to publisher Wiley, “Dentistry at a Glance” is “a concise and accessible introduction to the study of dentistry, as well as a useful revision guide for newly-qualified dentists developing their careers.”
Professor Kay commented:
“We are confident that we have produced a really useful resource for undergraduates and the recently-qualified in dentistry. We have drawn on the knowledge and expertise of respected dental practitioners, academics and theorists not just from Plymouth University but also from around the world, and I am greatly thankful to them for their input and support.”
