Smart Hub bookings

Smart Hub is your online bookings system for all Faculty resources, facilities and workshops offered by the technical team. As a student, you will be able to browse our technical offer, manage bookings and build a portfolio of specialist skills by attending the workshop inductions offered during your degree. All areas are accessible to be booked remotely, 24/7 without the aid of a technician.
You will be able to book items that are relevant to your course and stage of your degree – as you progress through the stages of your degree you will build a palette of skills that will enable you to access a wider range of specialist equipment.
There will also be the opportunity to access specialist inductions and workshops in a broad range of specialisms, and once this has been completed you will be signed off by the technical staff as a competent user, thereby releasing the process or resource on the system so you to book in advance.

Room booking

Smart Hub also provides you with the ability of booking specialist facilities and will be available once an induction into the facility has been achieved. This covers safe and correct operation, so we know you can competently and you understand your responsibilities for the care of yourself and others, as well as the correct and responsible use of the resources within the facility.

Equipment

The range of equipment deployed within our facilities for our students is vast and too many to list but we have some of the latest industry technologies. Alongside new technologies, we have preserved analogue technologies to expose our students to those traditional skills and processes.
The Media Hub is continually being assessed for its equipment offer, and in cooperation with all stakeholders we continue to expand the diverse range we carry. As new resources and facilities increases or change, you will be notified by your programme leader or tutor and will subsequently become visible on your Smart Hub.

Returning equipment

All equipment must be returned to the Media Hub on the day it is due by the time you specified at the point of booking. If you know you are not able to return on time you must contact us so we are able to inform the next students waiting to collect equipment.
Please note that you are responsible for equipment until it is checked back into the system. Therefore, make sure you hand equipment to a member of staff and wait until they are able to check all items have been returned. Do not leave the equipment on the desk unattended.

Damaged or lost equipment

We understand that accidents sometimes happen. However, this is not an excuse to be careless and we expect you to take responsibility for the equipment while it is issued to you. Should an item become damaged or lost, it is important that you report it to the Media Hub staff as soon as possible. We will need to know what items are affected and the circumstances surrounding their damage or loss. You may be asked to pay for the repair or replacement of any damaged or lost equipment.
Please ensure you have read and are familiar with the Media Hub Loan Agreement ‘Terms and Conditions’ which you will have signed and agreed to when applying to be put on our database. These terms need to be agreed to each time you borrow equipment.

Theft

Should you be the victim of a theft, it must be reported to the Police immediately to obtain a crime number. You must then inform us of the incident as soon as possible, providing us with the crime number, a list of the items stolen and the circumstances of the theft. The nearest police station to the University of Plymouth is situated at Charles Cross, approximately a five-minute walk from the main campus.
