Our analytical facilities at the University of Plymouth are internationally renowned, with some certified to ISO9001, and supported by a wealth of knowledge available from our experienced staff. Find out how they could benefit your business or research interests.

We use our extensive instrument base and expertise to conduct primary research into new analytical methodologies, with an emphasis on measurement quality, for a wide variety of sample types. This knowledge can then be applied to solve measurement and characterisation problems for our large customer base.

What are the analytical facilities?

Plymouth Atomic Mass Spectrometry Facility (PAMS)

A dedicated laboratory for the analysis of a wide range of sample types, including waters, soils, sediments, terrestrial, fresh water and marine biota, for their elemental content by ICP-MS and ICP-OES.

Laboratory for Environmental Observations (LEO)

Focussing on sensor development, automated analysis and wireless networks for environmental monitoring of air, soil and water quality.

Organic Mass Spectrometry Suite (OMSS)

Comprising analytical instrumentation in three laboratories for the separation, detection, identification and quantification of volatile and semi-volatile organic molecules.

Consolidated Radio-isotope Facility CoRIF)

A dedicated laboratory for the manipulation and analysis of natural and enhanced radioactive materials and applications of radioactivity in material analysis
